American Education Week at Winslow Elementary; Winslow, IN
Winslow Elementary' invited me to be a part of American Education Week (week long version of career day). I was able to share some presentations that consisted of "What it takes to become a doctor", "How to not be afraid at the doctor's office" and an overview/demonstration on equipment and resources family medicine doctors use on a daily basis. My audience consisted of pre-k through 5th grades along with staff (about 300 in total). They were an amazing audience and I took away a few lessons of my own:
- The influence of money, biases and internal limitations can start very young. But so can inspiration, motivation and pursuit of learning!
- The hard questions never get easier to answer, I'm just getting better on knowing how not to be shocked anymore.
- It isn't about what I say that is important, it's what those children heard and remember.
